Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

I am so confused - AF?

I had a D&C a month ago and had been spotting pretty much since that time.  I had my follow up appointment on Tuesday,11/3 and my hcg was at 11.  On Friday night I started bleeding with a heavy flow (and still am)- I thought it was just my period, but how can I get my period if I still had hcg in my system only a few days ago?

I am sorry if this is a stupid question.  This has been such a frustrating process and I really am hoping this is my period and that my body is returning to normal.

Re: I am so confused - AF?

  • I had af about 4 wks after 1st m/c (med induced).  I thought it was really soon for me, but maybe we are just quick for af?!?  I hope this helps some.

I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you can feel some resolutions with your body finding normal-ness again.

  • Mine was similar.  AF came 28 days after my D&C.  I had been spotting until just about a week before and my hCG just 6 days before was still at 28.  I'm pretty sure this was AF for me, so I guess it's possible for it to come while you still have a bit of hCG in your system.  But I'm going to get a final draw this week just to be sure.

  • I'm sorry for your loss.  I don't know what my HCG was, but AF came 29 days after my D&C.

  • Thank you all for your replies, I really do appreciate it.
  • I didn't get blood draws to check, but I was still getting positive pregnancy tests at 3 weeks post surgery.  I started spotting on the 28th day after my surgery.  Spotted for another day and then started with heavier bleeding (still lighter than a normal period).

I just swore that it would take at least 8 weeks for another period, so I was pretty stunned to see bleeding so soon.  I'm hoping this is it.  I guess I'll have to wait for the next cycle to know for sure.

Good luck and I'm so sorry for your loss.
