We're trying not to tell many people until at least after we hear the heartbeat, and I THOUGHT I'd been doing a good job of covering the news so far.
I made it through a typically raucous tailgate yesterday without anyone asking questions based on my not drinking (one friend teased me a bit because I'm usually downing drinks with the best of them on game day, but I was able easily to pass it off because of a sinus infection--I do have the sniffles). But I got caught during the game. We're still in the student section (H is in law school), and everyone stands for the whole game. Not usually a problem, but yesterday my back was hurting, so I sat down in between quarters. A friend asked if I was sick, and I said, "no, my back is just giving me trouble," which is not unusual even when I'm not in the family way...I have a bad back, generally. I guess this friend didn't know that, or just has some crazy-good intuition, because she immediately squealed, "Your back hurts?! Are you pregnant?" I should have been able to give her a "oh, what a funny question" or something to throw her off the scent, but I was so taken aback that I just looked like a deer in the headlights. She's sworn to secrecy, but I have GOT to get better at deflecting, at least for a few more weeks.
Anyone else been accidentally outed?
Re: Caught!
I almost got outted about 3 weeks ago. I hadn't been feeling well (cold-like sickness, not pregnancy sick). I was leaving work and two of my co-workers were outside taking a break. The one asked me what werethe chances I would be at work the next day. I said it depended and I started listing my symptoms which did include feeling hungry, eating, then feeling sick. She looked at me and said something like, "Are you with child?"
(Another girl I work with is expecting, due in May, and these ladies had told me jokingly (I hope) that I wasn't supposed to get pregnant for 3 months because they didn't want to be without both of us at the same time)
I too had the deer in the headlights look and just stated that I didn't know. My other co-worker asked when I was expecting my AF. I said soon and left quickly. They haven't asked me about it again. Hopefully I can tell them this week after my appt.
