I've had several friends who recently had babies tell me that they didn't use wipes for the first few weeks. Instead, they used soft cloth and warm water...something about sensitivity of baby's skin.
What did you do? Also, what about powder? Seems like that's fallen out of favor also.
Thinking about this stuff makes me realize how little I know...:(
Re: newborn diapering...wipes or no???
We used Pampers Sensitive Wipes. Still do, actually. We don't use powder. I think its something about the baby inhaling it.
PS - I can't believe how close you are - yay!
I've always heard sensitive wipes and no powder.
And, don't feel bad......you're not supposed to know yet. I hope anyway because I feel like I know nothing and I'm going to learn from you!
I cannot believe Sophia will be here in less than a month!!!!!!!!
this exactly!
Thanks ladies! When I told my mom about the no powder thing she looked at me like I had 3 heads:)
25 days left...but who's counting:)
we always used wipes- i think it's crazy not to unless your child has some allergy to wipes. We use Kirkland wipes- they are scent free, etc.
powder is fine- but only on babies- make sure they can never get to it because inhaled it can kill them - use talc free powder (corn startch only) we use it on the babies after baths... but keep it far away from DS's reach.
powder is unnecessary and it can be inhaled too easily, it is a no no in the beginning for sure.
We used wipes from day 1. I brought wipes to the hospital, knowing that don't have then... Ethan was fine, we used sensitive pampers wipes.
We started off by using sensitive wipes but both our girls had diaper rash when they came home from the NICU. Our LC told us that we might try using cotton balls dipped in water, so we tried that, and we've been using that ever since. It works really well. We just squeeze the cotton balls out a little bit and dry their butts with a tissue. Then there are zero chemicals.
I've also heard you're not supposed to use powder anymore.
We used wipes, any brand, and no issues here, right from the start.
We don't use powder, with the exception of one little period when she had a bit of the runs.
Powder = No
Wipes = Yes, for poopies only
we used regular disposable wipes for the first 3 months, then switched to cloth wipes in a wipes warmer (to keep them moist and ready to use) when we started cloth diapering.
i will say, i thought i would miss sposie wipes but cloth wipes (we just use cheap gerber baby washcloths) are awesome - i only ever need one, even with a huge poop, whereas i would use 3-4 sposie wipes in that situation. also i do think they're nicer for babies' skin. but like i said, we started out with huggies wipes so either way should work fine!

In the Birthing class our instructor said if we are going to use powder to hold the diaper way from the baby and just put in diaper. Not to put directly on baby because it is to close and easy for them to inhale. I think I will only use if really needed.

LOL...my mom looked at me the same way when I said no to powder. I just told her that the times have changed, since she said that she "always used powder on us."
We use Pampers sensitive wipes and we have since day one.
