1st Trimester

sorry, 2nd post of the night

I posted this on the breastfeeding board, but didn't get any feedback. I guess that they don't check it as much as first tri, then again it is saturday night.

So this is for all you ladies that have a baby already;

I plan on breastfeeding, but I want to be able to drink sometimes. I know that I can pump for several days worth and then use that until the alcohol gets out of my system but what if it wasn't and I breastfed? Would I get my baby drunk?

I only ask this because I've heard parents rubbing burboun on their teeth babys gums and that seems to work & the baby is ok. Just wondering if that would kind of be the same thing?

Re: sorry, 2nd post of the night

  • if you are this worried and want to drink, i would suggest going to get the test stuff for breastmilk.  it can show if alcohol is in your milk.  It all depends on how much you drink.  if its more than a glass or two, then you need to wait 24 hours for it to get out of system.  Pump and dump...

  • i breastfed and occasionally had some drinks. if your baby catches the tail end of a drink i wont harm them.

  • Here is a helpful link I always followed when I was BF'ing more often (still am, but there's more time in b/t nursings now and well obviously I'm not drinking anymore): https://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/alcohol.html

    HTH!

    FWIW, I usually check and respond on the BF'ing board, but I've been off and on today and haven't checked it in a while.  If you post over there just check back b/c most responders check in from time to time and respond when they can.

  • I BF DS for a year, and had no problems with having an occasional glass of wine or a beer.  I ditto the link for kellymom; this is a great resource for anyone who is BF.

  • This is great information/resources! Thank you so much!
  • I will be a first time mom but I have heard if you have one drink and then bf 2 hours later, you should be fine.
