C-section moms, I have yellow stuff coming out of my incision!

I just got out of the shower and patted my incision dry. I noticed on the towel that there is very little yellow fluid that's kind of stinky. It's a very small amount but enough to grab my attention. I did some Googling and that was a bad idea, a lot of women said they had the same thing and it turned out to be an infection and they had surgery to fix it. That scares me to death! I just called my doc and she said not to worry about it, to put a pad on it and if gets worse on Monday to call. I hope this turns out ok! Did any of you have this?

Re: C-section moms, I have yellow stuff coming out of my incision!

  • I had a small problem with my incision and it was a little smelly (gross) and it turned out that it is somewhat common to get a yeast infection in your incision. I would just try not to freak out and do as the Dr. says. I ended up having to pour peroxide on it 6 times a day and believe it or not I had to go buy monistat and put that on the incision. I only did it for like 2 days and it totally cleared up and now I am all healed. Good luck but don't worry it's probably just something small.

  • I didnt have any leaking but my dr said that if I there was any fluid or puss for more than a couple days it was prob and infection that would need antibiotics. I cant imagine it would get so bad that fast you would need surgery. Just watch it for the next while. GL
  • I didnt have any issues. Do you have stiches or staples?

I had staples, I was told to keep it really dry, and not to cover it at all because moisture gets trapped and can cause infections. I used to blowdry it after a shower.

Keep an eye on it and if it continues for a few days call the Dr again. Hopefully it's just a one off.

  • I had a yellow ooze.  It burned a bit.  No problems, though, all very normal (my husband's a doc and he also said it was normal).
  • My incision was glued, and took almost 6 wks to heal completely. I had the same drainage, yellow and odorous, and had a couple pinpoint openings along my incision. My doc cultured the drainage, more to make me feel better that it wasn't infected, which it wasn't. I cleaned it with peroxide a couple times a day, applied hydrocortisone cream (because it itched really bad, and i had a minor allergic reaction to the steri-strips),and kept a dry gauze dressing over the area.

  • I had an infection with mine. Keep it clean and dry and get some sterile gauze to place on it. Your underwear can hold it in place. Call your doctor if you're concerned or get a fever. I was put on 2 rounds of antibiotics and they just had it drain itself. I did go to the doctor every 4 days for him to check it though.
