Preemies

back from the doc

when I called to check on him, they said he was not acting like himself at all. He wouldn't even sit up, just laying around. (REALLY unlke him.)
So I called and got a sick visit.

I picked him up from daycare and he was sleeping.. woke up in a great, perky mood. I felt kinda dumb taking him to the doctor.

But then when we were waiting to be seen, he started wheezing, so I was glad we were there. His pulse ox was good- 97ish, so that was a relief. Gave him a breathing tx, said to add pulmicort (inhaled steroids) at home, and another round of antibiotics for ANOTHER FREAKING EAR INFECTION. (I think this might make 7 in 5 months.)

I was glad we went in, but I'm tellingn you, when we were waiting for the oxygen sat to come up, I was holding my own breath. I just knew we were headed to the hospital. I was SO relieved.

Re: back from the doc

  • That's good news.  Poor kid, those ear infections have got to GO!

  • I'm glad he avoided the hospital.  I feel your pain about the wheezing/ear infection. Whe have the same thing going on with Simon.  We got the ok to stop the nebulizer, but the ear infection is spreading to the other ear.  That makes 4 ear infections in 5 weeks.  We just got a prescription for a 4th antibiotic and it cost $76!!!
  • Poor Robbie.  Sounds like you got him there just in time.

  • Poor kid!! I agree with L! Those ear infections have got to stop!! Is there any talk of tubes ?

    Feel better Robbie!!!

  • Poor baby!  I hope he's feeling better soon!

Wasn't he supposed to have tubes put in or did I just make that up?

  • yeah, he was supposed to have gotten tubes on Oct 14, but got sick on Oct 13. Got rescheduled for this past Wednesday... obviously.. he's sick.

Right now it's supposed to be NEXT Wednesday, but..well.. we'll see. The doc today said the steroids might do the trick and he could be okay in time for the surgery, but who knows. We're going to re-evaluate on Monday and go from there.

mek, ARGH! We're fortunate that we have precription coverage and augmentin seems to be doing the trick, which is a cheaper one. But I think this is his 4th round of Augmentin now. (We had a failed round, and then a round of something else that made him SUPER sick.) It just seems never ending

  • I've been thinking about you all day.  I'm so glad Robbie isn't in the hospital.  Taking him in was a very good idea.  Give us an update tomorrow!

  • oh I'm so glad you guys didn't have to go to the hospital! Poor guy, those ear infections are awful. I'll keep you guys in my prayers.
  • is the dr giving the same antibiotic over and over?  maybe it isn't 7 ear infections but maybe a couple that never went away.  we had an ear infection for about a month only to find out that the amoxicillan didn't work and they had to up it to a stronger med.  once that happened, my baby was happy again and I am ecstatic to say she is back to STTN.  obviously I don't know the whole story, but it was just a thought when I read your post.  I hope Robbie feels better soon.
  • ammc, they recheck them and see they're gone. Then a week later, it's back.

The first stuff he was on (I don't remember what it was now) didn't work- never cleared up.

Then he was on omnicef and that was horrible. It did NOT agree with his stomach. He lost a pound of a half in 10 days. Horrible, horrible, horrible. But cleared it up.

So the next time he needed them, she tried the augmentin because he'd been on it for something else months ago, and worked well and didn't kill his stomach. That seems to do the trick- goes away. Just can't stay away.
