I don't know how often this happens, but I thought I'd share that the guess the u/s tech made at my NT scan about the baby's gender was wrong. At that time (12.5 weeks) the tech had a pretty good guess that I was having a girl. When I went home and researched the "angle of the dangle" theory, I agreed with her guess. Well yesterday was my big u/s and we were totally surprised to find we're having a boy! Even though I knew the NT scan was an early guess, I had convinced myself I was having a girl. I'm totally excited now about having a boy, but it sure was a surprise at first.
Just wanted to share so that no one paints their nurseries based on an NT scan gender guess ![]()
Re: NT scan gender was wrong
I've heard that when the predict it's a girl at the NT Scan, the chances of them being incorrect are a lot higher than if they predict it's a boy at the NT Scan.
Glad you found out before painting!
These posts - and there have been a few of them the last few days - make me VERY happy that the tech who did mine wouldn't even take a guess at the gender. I think I would have a very hard time adjusting to the realization that I'm having opposite what I thought I'd be having!
But super congrats on Team Blue! You must be super excited (after you got over the shock!)
thanks for sharing this. (and congrats on your boy!)
at my 13 weeks u/s tech said boy...although based on the angle of the dangle theory i have read up on on in-gender.com pictures look more like a girl.
do you have any photos of you nt scan that you can post??
Sure! It's the same one from my siggy, but here it is bigger. The line just under the leg is the genitals. To me it looked close to parallel with the baby's spine so I thought it was a girl (as did the u/s tech). But not so!
did you ever post this on the in-gender.com forums? and if so what were the majority of guesses. here is my 13 week pic. (u/s tech said boy, but all the guesses in in-gender.com were for a girl! i guess only time will tell)
I never did post it there, so I'm not sure what the guesses would have been. When I look at yours my guess would be girl. The angle looks exactly parallel to the spine. But I was wrong before so I wouldn't go by that!
you should post your 13 week pic now and see what the guesses are. see if they are smarter than your u/s tech was!
My Perinatologist says the same thing and he has deliver the most amount of multiples in the US. My point is he has seen a lot.
I'm sure that was a shock
I don't understand why u/s techs even try to guess the gender at NT scans. It is a known fact that the genitals are still developing usually when most of them occur.
