OTC Gender test, anyone tried it? Is it accurate?

I went to the grocery store last night and in the same section as the pregnancy tests there is a gender test.  It says it can tell you the gender once you are six weeks along.  It cost $35!  Has anyone done this?  Was it right?  Am I crazy for thinking about spending the money?  I might try to find it cheaper online.

    last time it was a topic it got shot down big time. ie. it has a fifty percent chance of being right, spend your money on diapers :)

    The show The Doctors tried it on two pregnant women who both got accurate results...but its a pretty small sample size.

     I don't want to pay $35 for it...but secretly hope my mom buys it for me lol

    Yes, I actually do just like peeing on things.  In fact, I think I'll just keep pissing away $35 until the test tells me what I want to hear.  Lol!  You guys are so serious.  I bet there are a lot of girls on these boards who have tried it, who are just too afraid to say it since you are all so uptight.  It was a fun question. Relax!

    there are a few that have tried it, I have not. It's more of a gag gift type thing then a true test. If you have the $35 to spend and wanna try it-go for it. Just don't go buying blue/pink based on the results. ;)

    a lot of the women on another forum I belong to tried it. It was pretty accurate. Would I try it, yes. Would I try it then go out and buy a ton of gender specific stuff? No

    Agreed, I definitely wouldn't buy anything off of the results.  But I thought it might be fun to give it a try.  You pee on a stick and it tells you if you are pregnant, why couldn't you pee in a cup and find out the gender?  It's all just hormones and chemical reactions.

    Nothing in your urine can determine gender.  But I think if you want to do it for fun and have the money to spend, go for it!!  I see nothing wrong with giving it a go.  I probably would have done it for fun but don't have the money to waste.  :)  If you have an extra $100.00, you could do an early 3d/4d u/s at 15 weeks and it would probably be more accurate.  :)

    If I had money to throw around, Id say I would try it just to see if it was right when I found out via u/s.  I had looked at the box in my 1st pregnancy and i think it said it was 85% accurate, not 50%.

    This was also brought up on another board I frequent (which is more friendly IMO) For fun, I think I will do it! I mean come on, my intution with both of my pregnancies was 100% accurate...why not have some fun and see if a test says the same as my intution this time around? :) I say try it if you want to!

    on previous posts the joke was 50% accuracy...as in boy or girl :)

    the box says in the ~85% for accuracy.

    I'll admit I wanted to try it for fun. I looked it up on youtube and there are some cute videos. I do like the idea of an early 3D/4D ultrasound too.

    If you want to try it, go ahead! It's not going to hurt anything. But I would recommend checking eBay. My coworker bought it for me from eBay for $14.99 with free shipping. I did it but obviously don't know if the results are accurate yet.

    I've seen it.  Hubby and I have joked about doing it for entertainment.  We haven't decided if we're going to find out the gender or not with an ultrasound.  I definitely wouldn't, despite the box, plan the nursery around it.  But then again, you can have an US and occasionally they get it wrong with that.  There are stories of people having to re-decorate the nursery after giving birth.  Smile

    I'm only on the boards maybe 1 or 2 times weekly so I haven't seen this before.  Hasn't literally every question been asked at least once before?  At least that's my impression, but I'm not on here as much as most.

    I havent used it, never will. I have pissed on, in and around enough stuff to last me a lifetime. Ill just save the money and wait till he/she is born :) I like surprises anyway.

    One of the things I find fascinating was the gender pee test the Egyptians did.  It didn't work either, of course.

    Whichever sprouted, barley or wheat told you what you were going to have.  On the other hand, apparently pregnant urine causes things to grow better. Good to know for spring gardening, perhaps?  Wilted Flower

    I figure the test is like an ouija board or something else you take with a grain of salt.  For fun, sure.  But I definitely wouldn't outfit the nursery by the results.  We're learning towards finding out on the ultrasound, having them write it on a card, so we can go out for a nice dinner and open the card.  I won't tell other relatives though, otherwise, they'll give me 100% blue or 100% pink.  I like the idea of it being a secret between DH and I.
