AW: Got a job interview

So most of you know I wasn't happy about my job switch at work.  I decided to go ahead and apply for another job - a job that I NEVER thought I'd get.  I just figured it would make me feel good to apply for something so I didn't feel stuck where I am.  Any-who, they called me and said they would like me to come in for an interview.  I was like, "Shut the front door!".  Ok, maybe I didn't say that.  But I wanted to!

So for this interview I have to prepare a powerpoint presentation and get up in front of 5 people and talk about a certain topic (accounting related).  How the hell am I going to do that?  I am outgoing, but I get nervous in front of people I don't know ...especially if I am trying to impress them.

Help! <gulp>

  • Congrats Kelin!!!!!!!!

Holy crap, I will be no help to you because I freeze infront of groups larger than 1 person.

What is the position? What will you be doing? Can you work from home?

Do we need to hug it out?

  • This is what you are going to do.. you are going to make a kick a$$ power point presentation and practice for DH... It is way harder to be serious in front of one person then it is to do it for real,, then you are going to go int here and Knock their socks off because you know that all of us are here routing for you!!!!
  • Pop a valium before to keep your nerves down? And wear that pencil skirt!

    GL Kelin!!!

I'm not super strong in PPT.  I use it in my Master's program and have made some quickie presentations for work.  If I send it to you will you give me some feedback?  Yes - the interview is next Friday... the 13th.  I am going to work on the PPT over the weekend.

The position is a local government position - sorta high up (will give you more details later).  I will be responsible for financial stuff.  Cannot work from home.

And if you ask me to hug it out one more time I am going to e-slap you.  Then hug it out afterwards.

  • Good luck at the interview! It sounds scary, but I'm sure you'll do great!!
  • Good tips ladies!  I will definetly wear the pencil skirt and heels.  I will practice with DH.  And Katie, if I had valium.. I would so pop one, but I don't.

  • CONGRATS on the the interview!!!!!!!!  I totally freeze in front of people, so I just try and focus on something right above the attendee's heads (clock, picture, etc) and look at that....Good luck....let us know how it goes

  • Congrats on the interview!  I agree with the others about practicing with DH.  I never tried it, but you could also do it in front of a mirror or videotape yourself.  I hate the sound of my voice so video freaks me out, but supposedly it's really helpful.  Tons of luck to you.
