Success after IF

When did you remove valve in sippy cup?

Cal's so used to it, I'm afraid when we remove it he's going to choke b/c he's going to suck on it so hard!
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

Re: When did you remove valve in sippy cup?

  • Pedi told us at 10 month appt to remove it.  DD did fine.  Maybe start slowly with not a lot of liquid and see what happens.
  • Loading the player...
  • just be careful because one of the kinds we have when you take the valve out it spills every where, not meant to be used without it.
  • Why would you take it out if he's doing ok with it?  My pedi said to take it out in the beginning to make it easier for them to get liquid out.  Once they have that down, you put it back.  I'm confused now...

I guess I thought it was something that they graduate to.  The valve sort of operates like a nipple in that they have to suck to get it out, but eventually they're ready to have it just pour into their mouth, like drinking from a regular cup.  No?

  • never.

When they're big enough to not need a sippy we move to regular cups.

Sippy with no stopper would be a huge mess waiting to happen around our house.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Huh!  I thought they were removable for a reason...probably just for cleaning, eh?

Ditto this.  I didn't plan to ever take it out.  We moved on from the ones with valves to the ones with straws, and eventually we'll just move on to cups.
