Can I request a NT scan?

My doctor hasn't mentioned it yet but I was hoping to get one done before Thanksgiving- because I want to make sure everything is going well before I tell my family.  I'm young (26) and don't have any history of down's syndrome in my family, can I still request one?

    my dr presented it to me as an option when i had my first appointment. along with other tests that you can get. . . you can call them and ask what they recommend.

    I think it depends on what is availible for your clinic/hospital..

    Usually if you request it, they will out-source you to a facility that has the doctors who can read the u/s correctly.

    Oh, and they usually co-incide with the Integrated Screen, which is where they take blood between 12 weeks and then again at 15-22 weeks.

    I would ask about it...my Nurse forgot to ask about it until I mentioned my husband's cousin died of Cystic Fibrosis, and she was like "!!!! Genetics tests!" and said she would schedual me for everything.

    No harm in asking. If they don't offer it in your OB office/hospital, they might refer you to another for it. You might want to look into insurance coverage for it as well.

    You can, but chances are your insurance won't cover it.

    It never hurts to ask, BUT from what I've read, the best time to have one is between 11 and 14 weeks...  From my math (which may be off... It IS Friday afternoon after all!) you may want to wait unti JUST before Thanksgiving (or put it off until the week after) for the best results.

    I want to have one done, too, but don't know yet if insurance will cover it or not... If not, I may, unfortunately, have to skip it.  Stupid insurance...
