LO is constipated and Pedi won't do anything

Help! He has been like this since Sunday. He is going but small little pellets only and everytime he eats he tries to go and ends up crying. What should I do? The poor guy is obviously in pain and the dr thinks he will work it out.

BTW, I have done the thermometer up the butt. Man, I hate that.

  • I've read about giving a little prune juice or even just water to try to get things going.  But I don't know how much.

  • WHn DD is constipated, my pedi told me to give her juice.  1/2 and 1/2 water.  Good luck!  I think apple or grape is best-oj might be too tough on the stomach (with the acid)
  • How quickly does the juice work? How often should I give it?

    Thank you BTW. :-)

  • we did white grape juice, I believe we started w/ 1 teaspoon of juice and 1 oz water

  • Gerber sells an apple prune juice that our pedi told us to use.  We are having the same problem right now, but she said they do the same thing for newborns who are constipated too.

  • When my dd was about the age of your lo we had the same thing going on.  My pedi said to give her 1 oz of apple prune juice and 1 oz of water.  I think it works pretty fast, within and hour or so.

ditto...I hate when this happens..I usually end up crying with DD whily trying to help her go...I try the bicycle legs...rub the tummy in the belly button area clockwise...lift her legs up and toward her face like when I diaper change and there is also the baby bullet supp. but I'm not sure how old baby has to be for that...

make sure you aren't giving your LO anything that can constipate..like bananas, applesauce, etc.

    Good luck

This.  We just did it once.  It worked within the day.  GL

  • dd was that young when she got constipated too.  Our pedi suggested PediaLax.  Just use 1/4-1/2 of the bulb.  Works really quickly.  Not something to use every day but desperate times...
