Ques about dental vists while PG

Is it common for your dentist to require a permission slip from your MW/OB to have your teeth cleaned?

Re: Ques about dental vists while PG

  • I have no idea, but I've put off going to the dentist because I know I have a little cavity and will need xrays and I just don't want to deal w/ it while pregnant.  Terrible, I know.

  • Mine did not. He also did not do x-rays during my visit - he'll save that for another time.

ditto.  Although he won't do anything major.  I had a very painful cavity when I was pregnant with K... they 'fixed' it to the point of relief and told me they'd finish it all out once she was born and I was no longer nursing.

This. I just went for a regular cleaning and check-up a few weeks ago. No note needed.

  • I had a regular cleaning with no note needed.
  • No, but I haven't had a cleaning past 20 weeks... maybe they are concerned about you laying on your back for the cleaning?
  • Interesting. My office won't see pregnant women without a dr's release. When I asked why they needed permission to clean my teeth, she said it was just for their records and paperwork purposes. Translation: CYA.

I could have gotten an afternoon cancellation slot today if that wasn't the case No

  • You're not alone, mine wanted a note too.  I had no idea, but at one of my OB visits, I mentioned I had a dental appt coming up, just a regular cleaning, and she gave me a note to take.  I'm glad she did, because when I got to the dentist, they asked me for it.  And I think they only will do x-rays if you're past the first tri, and then it's double shielded.
