Pumpers - Where do you get your information? Plus one other question.

I would like to introduce one bottle a day soon, so my DH can do one feeding.  I'm looking for a book or a good website that goes over the dos and don'ts for pumping.  Really the dos and don'ts for storage and feeding I guess.  I get how to pump :)

My main question right now if anyone knows is this:

If I am pumping into one bottle, but plan on feeding the baby with another kind, which bottle do I put in the fridge with the milk?  I will pump into the Medela bottles, but plan to feed (well, try to) with the Playtex Drop Ins.  Should I store the milk in the Medela bottles in the fridge and then switch when I feed her?  Or should I dump the milk right away into the drop ins and store that bottle in the fridge?  Hopefully that makes sense.  Thanks!

  • I pump into my medela bottles and store it in those then I pour into the bottle I am going to feed in. As for information I just kind of looked at a bunch of different sites on the web plus read about it in What to Expect the First year.

  • I use the playtex drop ins too.  Typically I leave all my pumped milk in the medela bottles that I pump directly into and then transfer to the drop in when I'm ready to use it.  Then if I don't use all the milk I pour the rest into the lansinoh bags and freeze it.

I don't have any recommendations for pumping resources other than the bump boards and kellymom.com.  And of course google :-)

  • Doesn't matter. I'm not familiar with the drop-ins,but I store in different bottles than the ones I feed in. Just be sure to really shake up the milk bf transfering to your drop-ins so that you don't lose the thicker fat part of the milk.
  • I both pump and store in the Medela bottles. I then either feed from those bottles or dump into another bottle to feed. I don't think it matters if you store it in one bottle and then feed from another. Just make sure if you are combining milk that they are the same temperature.
