Re: The SAHM Book Club Weekly Check-in
Hi! I made my goal!!
I finished "Mercy" by Jodi Piccoult. I am now reading "Away" by Amy Bloom. I ended up really liking "Mercy". One of the main characters in the book is a police office, and DH is in law enforcement, so I felt like I could really relate.
So far "Away" is excellent. It's a little tougher read, but it is so well written that it's worth the challenge.
Thank you Mrs. Shavers for putting together this book challenge. It has been really great to be working towards a goal. Even though I hit my 30 books, I am still reading my heart out
I read Harmful Intent by Robin Cook and now I'm on The Broker by John Grisham.
I made too lofty a goal. I've also been trying to get my sewing business off the ground so I haven't saved much time to read!
This week I read:
The Book Thief- awesome!
Little Earthquakes- good but had some tough parts to get through dealing with loss of a child
Something Borrowed- quick, chick-lit read
That brings my total to 73.
I really loved Away too. In fact, I just found a first edition hardcover for $2 and sent my paperback to an ex-student.
Sorry I haven't been updating! I finished the SAH Survival Guide, Babylove by Rebecca Walker, and Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos. Belong to Me was really good. Well written and satisfying, but still kind of chick lit, so fun. I also read Ann Hood's The Knitting Circle, which was fun, but not so well written.
Started Love Walked In by de los Santos too. So far it's not as good, but I could change my mind. (It's her first novel.) Still have to finish The No-Cry Nap Solution.
I finished all the books I left the last time I checked in a few weeks back, as well as having reread Midnight Sun. The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty series was not at all what I expected, however it was like a train wreck and I couldn't help to continue reading just to see what would happen next. I'm glad I stuck through b/c, although extremely strange and I still don't understand the characters' thought processes, I found it to have a happy ending, and the third book to be my favorite overall.
DH is in the Amazon Vine program and chose The Well-Behaved Child: Discipline that REALLY works! by John Rosemond, so that was my number 50 and my goal met. At first I wanted to slap this guy upside the head b/c he seemed to take the exact opposite of AP, but by the end I decided to check out one of his other books, Making the Terrible Twos Terrific! (51) I don't agree with everything he says in either book, but most of the reasoning and theories are sound, and with the right balance of his methods and AP I'm hoping that I can indeed avoid the terrible twos, threes, and teens
. They're worth reading if you want some tools for this parenting gig.
I'm currently reading Intervention by Terri Blackstock (52). It's a (slightly) Christian suspense novel that's well-written and compelling.
