Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Opinions please re outerwear (PIP)

I'm still trying to find a coat for DD this winter.  I bought one that I loved, but when I tried it in her carseat (she will still be in the infant seat this winter) it was way too bulky (and unsafe).  I know they say fleece is the best because it's warm and not too bulky for the carseat, but I'm not a huge fan of fleece.  So I've been trying to find an alternative, but I'm having a hard time.  So my question is, do you think a hooded sweater would be just as warm?  I'm planning on getting a "shower cap" style carseat cover for extra warmth, but the only question would be, would it be warm enough if we take her out of the carseat to take her into a store/restaurant, etc.  I suppose we could wrap a blanket around her.  I found this one that I thought might work, but I don't know.

Actually, now that I'm looking at it, it doesn't look lined.  I think just the hood is lined.  Hmmm...I'll probably have to keep looking.  Ugh! :-(

  • A hooded sweater for up north, noway! I think you definitely need more than that. I'm in SE Texas and I'm getting my ds a fleece jacket for the winter down here.

If you don't like the landsend, llbean stuff, check out hanna anderson. I saw cute girly fleece stuff in their catalog.

  • i posted a link to this jacket the other day.  you can take off the outer layer so it's not so bulky for carseat use.

smallest size is 12 months though-- not sure how old your DD is. Old navy has similiar 2 in one jackets, probably with smaller sizes if you need it.

thanks, mod!  dd is pretty little yet, so she probably won't fit into that one, but that's a good idea to look for a 3-in-1 or 2-in-1 jacket.  i'll check out ON.  thanks! :-)

  • Do you keep your car warm?  If so, your baby could be in the carseat without a jacket!     For both my girls, they are in their carseats with a sweater (a hoodie, fleece jacket, or other sweater - or even just whatever they are wearing), and then I layer blankets on them - I usually keep a toque on them, it helps keep them warmer.   Fleece really is one of the warmest materials to keep baby warm, though.  You may want to consider a "carseat poncho" or fleece blanket for in the vehicles.    Believe me, I know cold very well, and I've never had a problem keeping Olivia warm with layers.

Yeah, if I did a sweater, that's what I would do is just layer her and add blankets.  And then I thought with one of those "shower cap" style carseat blankets it would keep her warmer too.  The only issue is when we take her out of the carseat, so I'll probably end up getting fleece.  lol
