I really need to get new pots and pans, but have no idea where to start. I don't need super expensive ones, but would like some that are somewhat decent. What do you use?
a Calphalon non-stick set. It wasn't cheap but I've had them for over 5 years, use them daily and wash in the dishwasher and they still look brand new. Well worth the price.
The other set is a stainless Cuisinart set... much cheaper (and used for different things since they're not non-stick) and love them too! Totally indestructible! They've been scorched and scrubbed to death but are holding up great!
The best advice I ever got re: pots and pans was to not buy a set and only buy the sizes, shapes, and finishes that made the most sense for us. So we have one large non-stick pan, two stainless stock pots, a cast iron braiser, cast iron dutch oven, a soup pot the works really well for just the two of us, and a small saucepan. I also have one "egg pan" - a non-stick finished cast iron that is only used for eggs. It's really kept my cupboard nice and tidy since I don't have pans that I never use and I was able to purchase nice individual pieces without worrying about the "set" price.

I have a set pretty similar to this from costco and it was the same price. I think they just changed the look a little. I love, love love them! They are awesome and very comparable to any top of the line stainless steal out there. They are easy to clean too!
I have Emeril's set of non-stick and I love it. I have had it for nearly 4 years, use it everyday and it still looks brand new. I also have a small fry pan, a dutch oven and a couple casserole dishes that are enamel covered cast iron and I love these as well.

Um, I was a hardlines merchandise manager for about forever (ok 7 yrs) and I have all different types. My fav all around good buy is the Simply Calphalon stuff, they are lower priced, some are hard anodized, some are not, but they are all non-stick with fairly even heating.
I have some basic stainless farberwear that is great for boiling eggs or pasta and heating soup and veggies
I have some cast iron, great for stove to oven and for browning or blackening
My All-Clad are the best of the lot, and I use them often, mostly the stainless stuff...
Calphalon hard anodized come out during the holidays and I like them. I have some cicrculon, some Emeril all Clad and some others, but I really do prefer Calphalon. I just sent some Calph back to the manufacturor for issues and they replaced them with no issues!
