What Christmas / holiday traditions will you be starting?

DH and I were thinking about starting some sort of tradition for our new little family.  Neither or our families are big into traditions, but we'd like to change that.  Other than getting LO a special ornament every year, we're not sure what else we want to do.  Just wondering if anyone else was planning anything special for LO that they plan to carry out over the years.  Thanks for sharing any ideas!

    Sometime back in 1st or 2nd tri, someone posted about her family tradition of reading a different Christmas themed book every night of December leading up to the 25th.  Since DD will be too young to open presents this year, I'm telling our parents if they want to buy her gifts, they can buy her books for this purpose.

    We will do the Christmas ornament thing. We also are going to open one present on Christmas Eve as a family. Probably a game or maybe new pjs that we'll carry on for all our kids. Santa is also going to bring him 3 gifts like the 3 wisemen brought Jesus.

    We have a couple that we will be continuing now that LO is here. One is a trip to Sedona around Christmas (we are in Phoenix). There is a beautiful Christmas light display there, and a large portion is for kids. DH and I have been going for 7 years, so now we will just incude our son. :)

    Second, we go to mass Christmas Eve every year and then have Mexican food with his family. We will continue this too.

    We talk about starting a new tradition now that he is here, just haven't figured it out yet. Maybe I will get ideas fro this post. I am so happy I have a husband that loves Christmas as much as I do.

    The Elf on the Shelf.  I've seen it at Barnes & Noble, it comes with a little elf and a book I think.  The theory is that you place the Elf somewhere in the house, and every night it goes back to help Santa in the North Pole.  When it comes back in the morning, it sits somewhere different, and the kids are supposed to find it.  I know it's a little premature for this year, but I like the idea.

    We will read the Polar Express while drinking hot cocoa and open one gift on x-mas eve. That's all I can think of.
