5 months based on pedi..but had to back off a lot and just do tiny tastings that wouldnt fill him b/c he was getting so full on solids he was barely eating formula...only drinking 2-3 oz. bottles...not good. So, we will let him start drinking more then try him again at 6 months or so.
I gave him his first solids yesterday without pedi. He was showing signs and I think he's ready. He LOVED it! I plan to check with her shortly, but I feel comfortable moving forward with it.

This week. Pedi rec'd it because DS had been pooping 8+ times a day and it was starting to really bother him. Solids are binding him up so far- we're down to 3-4 poops!
3-4 months with pedi suggestion. My pedi was clear they should be getting 95% of their nouirshment from breastmilk though. I stressed a ton about starting this early but decided to try because they eat so much and are always hungry. I shouldn't have worried so much. When they were offered solids they didn't want them, so it turned out to be an easy decision. I think there is a lot to be said for watching your baby's cues.
Cereal (rice, thin) in a bottle, 2 months due to insane appetite and mild reflux.
Cereal (rice, thick) in a bowl/spoon, 3 months.
Cereal (oatmeal, thick) in a bowl/spoon, 3. 5 months.
We will probably start proper food after his 4 month appointment. If he didn't have such an insane appetite we'd probably have waited a bit, but I'd rather go ahead and move him onto food since he's going to have to have cereal in his bottle until he graduates from formula anyway (he pukes otherwise.)
Contemplating the snow.
