Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Cloth diaper mammas come in, please.

Disposable diapers are taking over our trash limit for pick-up!  I always intended to try cloth diapers, I think now is the time since we're out of the fussy newborn/ brand new parent stage.  I'm ready for the next challenge...

What is a good brand to buy?  I bought some Gerbers, but I don't think they'll work very well.  I also bought a couple diaper covers.  What is the technique of folding a successfull cloth diaper?  Is there a website that gives good info. on this topic?  TIA!

Re: Cloth diaper mammas come in, please.

  • Gerber diapers are for burp clothes... they're horrific actual diapers.

For prefolds, I am using Little Lions infant prefolds (seconds, they were just a bit dirty when I got them): https://www.little-lions.com/page50.html & for covers I love Thirsties Duo covers and my wool covers.

The EFF board may be your best bet for brands, though, but I would suggest since you don't know what you're comfortable with to try a trial package with Jillian's Diapers (or another company) so you can get hands on experience with several different types/brands before making a decision and investment.

Right now we're using mostly prefolds and covers, but there are tons of options out there. The Eco-Friendly board is also very helpful.

  • For how to fold:

Prefolds are definitely the cheapest, and since you already have some covers I'd start there, as well as a CD trial (which doesn't have enough to solely CD).

  • I love Pocket and All in One Diapers.  Ditto the pp, a trial will be a great way for you to find out what you like and which types/brands fit best on your baby.  You'll soon be addicted to all the cute patterns!

Also, as someone else said, Gerber diapers are no good.

  • Gerber cloth diapers are really horrible cloth diapers.  If you want to use prefolds Green Mountain Diapers come highly recommended as do Little Lions (I've used both, LL are cheaper).  Covers are great and a necessity.  You'll also need a snappi or pins.  This blog has lots of great tips for diaper buying, washing and folding.  GL!  We've been using cloth since we got home from the hospital and absolutely love it.

  • We love the bum genius 3.0 one size fits all! We've been very happy with them and our son seems to like them too. We purchased 19 and this seems to be a good number- we're washing them around every day/day and a half.

cottonbabies.com has a lot of useful info as well.

  • We use Bummis pre-folds with Bummis and Kushies covers and snappis to hold them closed.  I would definitely recommend them...they're so easy!  Bummis also has starter kits that include diapers, liners, covers and a wetbag.

  • We use bum genius 3.0 its a pocket diaper

basically its like a regular diaper and you put an insert in it to absorb

*We started with those because they are the easist*

And now we use prefolds and thirsties duos

    I love cloth diapering

  • I've been using kissaluvs size 0 + a cover, as well as bum genius 3.0 pockets and bum genius all-in-ones.  They have worked well so far.

  • I LOVE my bumgenious 3.0

I ordered them from Jilliansdrawers.com and they are great. Very user friendly. I bought 18 of them, and wash the used ones as the last thing I do before I go to bed. They dry quickly and they are great!  I actually feel good when people ask why I use them - Cost #1 and environment #2. The initial cost was about $280.00 but they will last until at least 18 months.

    Good luck and HTH

  • We have to haul our own trash and it was going to be expensive to haul dispossibles.  We use mostly PF's but my mom has bought a lot of variety off ebay and thye all work fine they may not have fancy names but they have all held the poop better then the disposibles ever did.
