Babies: 9 - 12 Months

almost 6 months old and has NO interest in solids

We started feeding her solids at 5 mos and she had no interest and acted like her tummy hurt. We just started again and she just spits it out and all over the place, laughs, and turns away. Anyone else have a 6 mo old that could care less about eating?

  • DS had no interest whatsoever until about 7 months.  He eats much better now but still isn't a big eater.  She's still young so just follow her lead for a bit..she'll let you know when she's ready.  :)

  • There's no hard rule that says babies need to be on solids at 6 months. If she's not ready, she's not ready - you can't force it. That being said, if you really want to get her on solids, just keep trying. Spoons are new devices that they need to learn to eat from! Try it once a day, and if she spits it out, so be it. Just get her used to the feel of it and eventually she'll catch on. What are you feeding her, anyway?
  • what is the rush? we didn't start max til 6 months, and he really didn't enjoy it so we tried again at 7 months with much better results.

  • We are doing oatmeal cereal and tried some sweet potatoes the other day, then some apples. Right now we aren't doing anything. I don't mind not feeding her solids yet, I just wanted to know if I really NEEDED to push her.

  • totally normal. no reason to rush. try every few days. dd was not a fan of solids at first - even sweet stuff!
  • DS is just now getting into solids.  I started trying around 5 months 1 week, occassionally offering it b/c he wasn't into it.  Took a completely vacation from solids the entire week before he turned 6 months and started up again at 6 months.  He did great with solids once a day last week and we've upped to twice a day this week.  So far so good, except he wasn't really into breakfast this morning.  Hoping the nanny has better luck this afternoon with his veggie meal.
