Anyone else think NIP is a major PITA???

Or is it just me??? (Since we are on the topic of....)

I have no problem with it, totally comfortable, blah blah blah.

BUT... my little man takes an hour to nurse. every.time.we.nurse. 30 min on each side. So when I used to NIP it would lengthen the time I did anything by an hour... so annoying! Especially for a busy Mom. BUT he can down a bottle of BM in 4 minutes. Not kidding... we time our little piggy to try to beat his "best time" Big Smile

So I guess for me it's totally more convienient, easy, and much faster to give a bottle in public. Anyone else???

  • I think pumping is a PITA, so I'd prefer to just nurse rather than pump for a bottle... or have to pack bottles and clean bottles for that matter.  Also they don't take as long as they get older, and your LO is still pretty young.  He may get better at it in a couple more months.

  • Yep, I'm with you, but for different reasons.  I can only nurse in the football hold, and that's hard to do in a lot of places.  So I either go to the car or take a bottle.

  • I rarely nursed in public with Lily, but this time around is a whole different story.  We are on the go so much that I kinda had to suck it up and make it easy.  Charlotte maybe takes 20 minutes to nurse now and usually I can get her satisfied after one side until we can get home for a lengthier session.

Oh I hope so!!!! I love nursing but wish he was more efficient!

  • Nah... my LO would rather poke out his own eye than take a bottle.  That would be a huge ordeal in public.. we can barely get him to do it at home.

And like pp mentioned - babies get more efficient at the breast the older they can.  Henry can nurse on both sides in under 20 minutes total.. start to finish, including burping time.

  • Ellie wouldn't take a bottle, so that definitely was not the case for us. And she nursed so much it was hard to find time to pump.

But I agree that he'll get more efficient. Ellie was like that. I think around 4 months or so she started speeding up a lot.

  • I still haven't really NIP (other than at my mom's or MIL's) but I find it's alot easier to just pump and bring a bottle if I know we're going to be gone for a few hours. And then I'll just pump when we get home to make up for the missed feeding. But that's just me (and I don't mind pumping).

But I agree - my LO can drink a bottle of BM in like 5 minutes but he sure takes his sweet time nursing (especially at 3am!)
