Another question about H1N1... sorry

Does anyone know if you can still get H1N1 even if you've had the vaccine? I was just wondering b/c I was around someone who had it yesterday but I got my vaccine about 2 weeks ago. TIA

  • Yes, you can. The shot helps to prevent you from catching it.

  • I would think so. You can always still get the seasonal flu even though you got the vaccine so I don't see why its any different. Plus, it takes at least 2 weeks after getting the shot to be effective.
  • The Vaccine takes 14 days to start "working". After that you should be ok

  • There have been conflicting reports as to how long after getting the vaccine that you are inoculated. I've heard everything from 2 weeks to 1 month. And vaccines are never 100% fullproof, so you still should be careful and wash your hands, not touch you face, eyes, nose, etc. with out washing first. You're probably fine though. I wouldn't worry.

  • It takes 2 weeks for the vaccine to fully protect you against the h1n1. So you should be okay. Me, on the other hand, I got mine last thursday... the guy who sits next to me at work has it and has returned to work. They have me on Tamiflu for 10 days (enough time for the vaccine to kick in since I started Tamiflu yesterday). So hopefully it has been at least 2 weeks for you!
  • Yes, but it provides protection for upwards of 80-90% of people who have it.

  • Before taking tamiflu I would research it a bit. It has very serious side effects.
  • Don't know, but don't forget that it takes about 6 weeks for these vaccines to get through our bodies and be full strength.
