I had my glucose test yesterday and while my sugar was fine, the lab tech said I had low iron. I was testing at a 27 when it should be around 34. I am kind of freaking out because I know all the risks that can come from iron deficiency.
Anyone had a perfectly healthy child with low iron? Or not worried about a low iron result. I started taking supplements immediately, but I hope I didn't do my baby too much harm.
Re: Anyone been diagnosed with low iron?
This. I think like, half of the women here have been diagnosed with this. I'm severely anemic. I forget to take my iron all the time. It just makes me feel run down and tired because LO is taking the iron for herself. Your baby will be fine. Just take the supplements (mostly for your sake) your doctor prescribes/recommends.
I meant I hope I didn't harm the baby by being iron deficient for having low iron for however long.
This.
The same thing happened to me at my glucose test, so I have been on an iron supplement since then as well. I think the supplement is more for you than it is for your baby. My doctor wasn't concerned at all, and he reminded me again that the baby will take everything it needs from the mom, so your LO should be just fine.
I was also told at my 1-hr that I had low iron - not low enough to need a supplement or anything and they didn't seem too concerned about it.
If you're looking for iron-rich foods - they suggested Frosted Mini Wheats. I think it has something like 90% of the suggested daily iron intake in one serving.
My mother had 3. She's always asking me about my iron because she was deficient during every pregnancy. My siblings and I were all very healthy babies.
