Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Re: Solids and crying. Please help.

Backstory:

When you feed my DS his bottle he cries and panics if it's taken out of his mouth. When he is done with his bottle we have to put a binky in his mouth exreamly fast after taking the bottle out because he needs something transitional to suck on or he will loose his_shit.

Now, when we tried solids he was good with the first spoonful but when he realizes it's not a constant "flow" of food he panics and cries and eating time is over.

We have stopped solids for now and will try again when he is 6 months but does anyone else have a little one that is like this? Did feeding solids work out eventually?

I am thinking about being baby led when it comes to this and ask the doctor for vitamins till he is ready. I don't know though.

  • We didn't have such a severe issue, but DS wanted more of an instant gratification when it came to eating.  So we'd start him off with a bottle, maybe 2/3 of what was considered a "full" bottle at the time, and then give him the solids after.  That way he had something in his belly and wasn't so ravenous.  But don't get me wrong--we still had to shovel quickly to get it in fast enough!

  • No idea if this will help or not, but my cousin had to give her son his spoonful of food, then push his paci in.  Then give  another spoonful of food, paci... etc until he was done eating.  Maybe he's not quite ready yet and doesn't realize he has to push his tongue back and swallow it? Hope it gets better soon!!
  • Well suck monkey, I was hoping people would say "why yes it does magically get better" haha. Ok thanks for the replies. :-/ Maybe he doesn't like oatmeal. I haven't tried "real food" yet.

  • Aw! Poor kid is hungry and for some reason thinks when you stop feeding him he will NEVER be able to eat again. Kind of funny if you think about it from an outside point-of-view. Sad, though.

    No advice, but good luck!

Question, though. Why would you ask the dr for vitamins? Do you FF or bottle-feed breast milk?

Maybe try a different food before giving up for the time being. With both of my LO's, they ate beautifully for the first week, then REFUSED to eat any more cereal (we had been eating rice cereal, the refused that, tried oatmeal, and they wouldn't even try it -- I think because it looks the same as rice cereal). Then we tried some veggies, and voila!  They must have just been bored, or tired of putting so much work into eating something that tastes just like the stuff they suck out of a bottle.
  • Thank you. I BF but I thought that they needed the vitamins from food at 6 months...maybe I am an idiot.

I will try real food in a month and see if that helps. He did have reflux but grew out of it.
