Paci weaning

Have any of you successfully weaned the paci?  I am thinking of weaning at 6 months but I am looking for some advice.  My DD has trouble sleeping without it & she often wakes when it falls out.  She spits it out on in the car & then whines for it.  It's driving me crazy!  Of course I am getting conflicting advice.  MIL thinks it's too early & mom thinks it is best to do it sooner then later.  Please share your experiences.

    This is a great question, DS stopped using it when he got Hand foot mouth disease, that help wean him, but he still needs it at night.  Wakes when it falls out.

    I did it cold turkey with my older son at 13 months and it took 2 days before he completely forgot about it.

    Cold turkey always seems like the best way to go.  It's a rough few days, but easier in the long run.
