My daughter was on breastmilk until about 2 months ago.
We started formula and found she can't have dairy. We switched to soy and are still having problems along with pretty much every food we try except straight fruit, veggies and meats.
They recently did allergy tests (still waiting results) and switched her to Alimentum which is ridiculously expensive.
My mother (a pharmacy tech) told me to call the insurance co. to see if they will cover the formula costs since they deemed it medically necessary. I'm currently waiting on a prior authorization to find out if they will or not.
Has anyone had any experience or luck with their insurance company covering the cost of their formula for medical reasons?
Re: Formula/Health Insurance ?
Hi! My DD was on Nutramigen. We were able to have it covered with our health insurance. It only cost us about $80 a month. I had to order it from a home health care supply place, but they would call every month to remind me to place the order and would 2nd day air it to me. It was awesome. My insurance co never gave me a hard time. I just had my pedi write up a prescription and faxed it over to the supply place. It was almost too easy, I was amazed.
