Grrr... MIL vent

I don't usually vent on her but my MIL made me so mad tonight.  I started doing very part time work doing foster/adoption homestudies and had one to do tonight.  They take approximately 4 hours to do and she came out and watched DS while I did one since DH is out of town for work.  I really appreciate her helping out so I could go and do this.  She took it upon herself to go into spare bedroom where we have lots of "junk" and clean it.  I had been working in this room for some time and had several piles (trash, keep, garage sale, etc).  She went through everything in this room tonight and organized my piles into neat piles.  I could tell she went through some things.  I may sound ungrateful and don't mean to be, but I would never have the nerve to go through a room in someone's house without being asked.  I just can't believe she went in there and did this.

Re: Grrr... MIL vent

  • I would be upset too. But whats done is done. Unless you're willing to have someone else watch your DS in the future I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

  • I'm not going to make a big deal about it at all.  I am not going to even say anything to her.  I just needed to vent.  It took me 14 months to have anybody watch DS and then she goes and does this.  It just irks me.
  • Annoying!  So glad i have this board to come to when i need to vent :o)  When ike was born, my "mom" came out for 3 weeks (2 weeks and 6 days too many, lol), she took it upon herself to rearrange all my drawers/cabinets in my kitchen.  What is it with moms/mils?!
  • Who does that?!  I often hear similar stories and it shocks me that they think it's okay to do.  I would be pissed if my mom or mil did that.
  • That's totally not cool.  If she wanted to "help" why not do laundry, dishes, dust, or something like that?!?
  • Aw MIL's, aren't they great? Mine did the same while I was in the hospital having Colton. I was pissed when I came home and my storage bedroom was rearranged. She did however dust, mop, and clean up before we came home. But then proceeded to tell our visitors about how "filthy" the house was and she couldn't have her 1st born grandson come home to a house so dirty so she had to come over and clean it from top to bottom. And just so you know, it wasn't that dirty. It was a scheduled c/s and I'd been on maternity leave for 2 weeks before I he has born so I had plenty of time to deep clean. She's just witch sometimes.

  • Yikes, I really don't understand why they think it's ok to just start "fixing" things.

My MIL and i have already had words over my house vs her house and the state of cleanliness.  She doesn't mention it to anyone anymore, lol.

  • Not cool at all. I could totally see MY mom doing something like that.

  • I would be ticked. I don't even want my DH to touch something that I consider a "work in progress" KWIM?

    Grrr.

  • Not cool!  If she wants to be helpful...do a load of towels, run the vacuum, unload the dishwasher.  WHO goes through people's piles?  Was she really trying to be helpful or nosing around?

my guess was nosing around!!! Kind of funny too there were several items she had purchased for DS that were not my style, didn't fit, etc that were in that room. All those items are now in a pile together. I guess she was upset about that.

i guess she'll get over it, lol.

  • Be thankful she was trying to be helpful in any sort of way. My MIL rarely gets to watch our kids but when she does it looks like a bomb when off in my home.

honestly I would rather have it look like a bomb went off than her snooping through our stuff!
