Potty training question

Our son has always had constipation issues to where he screams bloody murder and cries when he has a BM. Pediatrician says it's normal. Grrr. This has been very challenging as we potty train, the poor kid sits on the toilets crying and screaming until he finally goes. (and its hard to keep him on there because he's terrified)

Anyone have experience with this? We've tried Myralax and changing his diet. I think he connects going with it being painful and cries every time regardless.

Re: Potty training question

  • DD didn't have issues with constipation until we started potty training.  She hates having BMs on the toilet and holds it to the point of constipation.  Giving her high fiber foods helps.  Luckily, she loves grapes and raisins!

We do the usual things like having a sticker chart and making a HUGE deal about it when she does use the potty.  I also am trying to convince her tha the toilet is hungry and needs her BM for food.

Everything I have read said that this stage passes but it's still hard to see your LO in pain.

    GL!

  • Aw, poor thing! DD occasionally says it hurts, but fortunately she likes raisins and things that I'm assuming must help her go. She does go on the potty- if she wants me to stand there next to her I do, or sometimes she wants me to leave. GL to you- hopefully he'll get over this soon!
