Suggestions for managing BH contractions?

I've been having BH for about a week, mainly in the late afternoon through early evening...but for the last two nights they've continued till about 4am and have seriously disturbed my sleep. Now I'm trying to fight off a cold and have a huge project coming to culmination at work on Thursday so I NEED to get better quality sleep tonight since staying home sick tomorrow is not an option. 

Googling brought me the suggestions of walking, drinking water, and breathing exercises - any other ideas on managing or reducing them?  After Friday I can deal with them and if they move me closer to delivery I welcome them...but only after Friday!

  • Water.  I used to take a unisom (I believe - double check that it's safe before following my example - I can't always remember names correctly) when I was pg and having troubles sleeping.  Won't help with the BH, but may help you to sleep through them a bit easier.

  • Water...lots of it. And lay down on your side for a while, that usually helps mine. walking tends to make mine worse.
  • I drank enough to float a battleship yesterday in hopes of reducing them...which then just made me get up to pee every hour or so but since I wasn't really asleep didn't matter that much.  And I was laying down (since I was trying to sleep).

    Benadryl is approved to take (and I have that at home) so maybe I'll take one of those tonight. 

    I tried lecturing LO that mommy needed sleep but that didn't help either ;)

  • When I had issues sleeping I turned to Tylenol PM (as with Papagena, might want to check that's actually ok to take!).  For me the only relief was resting as much as I could.

    Thanks :) Tylenol PM is actually benadryl and tylenol (not sure what's in unisom). 

    I know I should be happy that my body is getting ready and "practicing" but it's just hard when you're tired and sick. I better have made some major progress at my next OB appt!  And at least this didn't start months ago...3 weeks of it should be manageable. (trying to see the upsides!)

  • you can also try a warm bath before bed. i have been dealing with them since about 15 weeks this time--last time i got them at 20 weeks. too much water actually makes mine worse. of course, not enough water makes them worse too so it's a balancing act. 

    just think of how nice and strong your uterus is getting through all of it... :)

    That's what I'm trying to focus on!  My "policy" has been to not complain to people about pregnancy symptoms (except DH) because I know people who would do anything to be pregnant so I try to focus on the positive - in this case practicing and getting ready to bring LO into the world! 

    Thanks for the bath suggestion - that definitely helped the back pain/cramps from them this morning so I will for sure try that again before going to bed. :)

  • The only way I can manage mine is drinking a lot of water and going to sleep.  It may not take them away for a couple days, but I found that just forcing myself to relax will help make them start to slow down.

    Who knows? My PNV does not seem to have any. I'm due in 3 weeks so having BH now isn't unexpected - they just went from nothing/minor tightening to much more significant/longer duration/whole torso involvement in a few days.
