Babies: 9 - 12 Months

PPD question.

Since none of you know me IRL (except one of you who I know isn't around) I figured I could ask this and not feel like a complete tool.

I think I may have been dealing with PPD for the last 6 months. I just thought it was "baby blues" but it's been coming and going, and hasn't really been anything I gave a second thought about until recently. At this point it's been about 3 weeks of constant anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, etc. I'm a little afraid to talk to my doc because I feel like she might just dismiss it since it's been so long and I'd never said anything about it before. I know that's a crappy reason not to bring it up, but I'm wondering if it's still even considered PPD 6+ months out.

So I guess my question is; who do I even talk to about this?

Re: PPD question.

  • Talk to your doctor. I don't know why she would dismiss it at 6 months pp. I have really bad anxiety since having Bri and was put on lexapro. I also had the option to go to therapy but because it wasn't so much a sadness as anxiety I opted for the meds.

  • I would talk to you doctor about it.  My doctor asks how everything is every time I go in with my daughter or for my current pregnancy.  I believe you can just call the doc's office or google for support groups in your area.  A close friend would be good to talk to or if you have a good relationship with either your mom or MIL they might be good to talk to.  Just don't leave it because it can get serious.  And yes it still can be considered PPD.
  • I would talk to your doctor about it.  I'm sure you're not the only one who has realized this.

  • It's considered PPD up to a year after delivery.  Talk to your OB or MW.  These ppl deal with PPD every day and can help you decide if counseling, medication, or a combo of the 2 would be best for you.  Don't be embarrassed.  Many, many women (me included) have dealt with PPD.  Get the help you need and don't feel badly about it.  You're doing what's best for yourself and your family.  I hope things look up for you soon!
  • Definitely mention it to a doctor, don't worry about what label it falls under. It's obviously a problem for you or you wouldn't be concerned.  If the dr. dismisses it and you still think it's a problem look for another doctor.
