My due date was September 3 and I had a very uneventful pregnancy. On July 30th I woke up at 4:00am to go to the bathroom. As I started to go back to bed, I realized that I was leaking. I didn't know what was going on--I ran downstairs to check my book that was given to me at my childbirth class. I continued to leak while reading and started to get scared. I couldn't possibly be going into labor. So I woke my husband and told him what was going on. We decided that we should shower and head to the hospital just in case. As I was showering I was letting him know when I had contractions (they weren't very strong, so I kept saying--"I think I'm having one"). My DH realized that my contractions were less than 5 min. apart and told me to call my doctor. My doctor called me back as we were getting in the car and said to go to the hospital.
The hospital is less than a mile from our house, but that's when the contractions were painful! We reached the hospital and as we were registering I was having the worst contractions (all in my back). I could barely speak to the woman getting our info. Finally we were sent to L&D. The nurse told me to put on the gown and give a urine sample. At this point the contractions were coming back to back and very painful. I told my DH that I think I needed pain meds. The nurse said she needed to check me first. So she goes to check me and says-wow you're at 10 cm and ready to go--don't push!!! She quickly put the IV in and called my Dr. The nurse had me breathe until my doctor got there. When he arrived I was able to push right away. After about 4-5 contractions, my DD was born. My doctor told me to "reach down and get my baby". I was in shock, but just put my hands down and reached under her armpits and pulled her out. It was quite crazy and happened so fast that it didn't seem real. My DD was born at 35 weeks exactly at 6:34am weighing 5lbs 12oz and 18inches long.
From the time I woke up to the time she was born was 2 hours 34 minutes. I thought for sure that b/c it was my first baby that I would go past my due date! We are still unsure as to why I went into labor early, but assume it was an infection. She was in the NICU for 5 days b/c she was working a little too hard breathing. Today she is 3 months old and doing great. My L&D experience still doesn't seem real b/c it happened so quickly!!!
