Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Dh is reenlisting in the Army!

He served 6 years right out of high school and has been wanting to get back in.  We've been talking a lot about it the last few months and he is going to reenlist next Thursday.  He's already been in contact with a recruiter and he knows what his MOS will be.  Please keep us in your prayers. I can't imagine him leaving for AIT training or MOS training, let alone possibly being deployed.

  • Congrats! What will be his MOS? Does he have to go back to basic since he's been out for so long? Does he get another bonus for re-enlisting?

  • He will be in data analyzing.  He was originally a MPO...but there isn't a slot open for him with that MOS.  He does NOT have to go back through basic.  Although he'd like to. lol.  I'm not sure about the bonus.  Heck, I hope we get it!!!
  • They're begging for MPO's here. Haha. Data is a good one. I hear a lot of good things for our state at least.

Will he be Guard, Active or Reserve?

Are you happy he's doing it, or are you supporting what he wants? DH and I had a tough time with this one.

Where in Kansas are you? We are in OKC.  Maybe we need to move there! By the way, I am from Liberal (AKA hell-hole!) ha ha.

He'll be guard right now... And I'm happy he is following his dreams. I would never try to stop him...but it's scary.  I'm not familiar enough with the army to be too comfortable with this decision yet.

And I just talked to him... we are getting the bonus.  You get a portion after MOS-Q and then more after year 2 and 3.  WOO HOO

We're in Topeka. It's a pretty sweet set up here. For guard, the training isn't more than an hour and a half away and we have several defense buildings they go to for training when they want to be lazy. Haha.

That's good that you're supporting him. It is scary, but with guard things are better. You have a better chance to move with him, if you wanted to. Also, if they still follow it, if you volunteer for deployment (even short ones) your "required" deployments get delayed. At least that's how it was explained to me here.

    Yay for bonus!

I'm just scared... I guess that's what it all boils down to.  He wants to have a good retirement for us later on and I don't blame him... OF COURSE.  But, it's scary, as I'm sure you know.

It really is. Sadly there's no easy around it. Have you discussed where he could be deployed with his MOS?

  • Congrats! My dh is AD and currently deployed...so I understand the scared thing. But, job security is a beautiful thing.  Kudos to your DH!
  • No, I haven't discussed the deployment thing... Thanks for the support ladies! :) It is comforting.
  • Anytime!
