Success after IF

red eyelid(s) but not eye?

Has anyone else's baby/toddler had one eye with red, slightly swollen eye lids? Sometimes it's her upper eyelid and sometimes it's her lower but rarely both. The redness comes and goes and is generally worse after she's been sleeping. Her actual eye is never red though and it doesn't appear to itch or hurt.

Do you think this is an allergy? I'd like to take Katen to the pedi but there's so much sickness around that I hesitate to sit in the waiting room with her.

  • It sounds like an allergy to me.  Do you have animals? Do they sleep near her bed?

  • My sister has had something like you described since birth. It is dry eye. If she keeps here eyes well moisturized with Visine etc, it keeps the eye from drying. Her eyes were always worse in the morning as well.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • Is it the outer skin that is red or the inner part?  No crusties?

We used to have a cat but we ended up rehoming her after a year of trying to manage Katen's allergies to her.

I have noticed that it's worse when she's been around her grandma who has a German shepherd but today, for example, she hasn't been around grandma since Friday.

There are no crusties and it's the outer lids. Not so much around the rim.

  • Kennedy had her 2 month well visit with the pedi yesterday, & I asked him about something similar. Only her right eye seemed to be watery often, and the left eye was fine. There was no redness on the lids or eyeballs that I could see. He said to pull down the lower eyelid and look there. It should be pink, not red and both eyes should be the same color. If not then bring her in because there could be a problem. Also he said to just massage the tear ducts because they are so small & can get blocked easily. I don't know if this applies since Katen is older, but I thought I'd mention it. HTH!

  • When E's seasonal allergies act up, he gets that...

beware, though, some pedis think babies or toddlers do not get seasonal allergies... oddly enough, my kids symptoms calm down after some zyrtec... but he is too young for allergies!Confused

Yeah... we've been through that. ugh. That's another reason why I'm hesitating. K's allergist says she def has allergies. Her pedi said it was't possible. lol hmmm...
