Tell me abt. painting the nursery and fumes...questions inside

in Pregnant after a Loss

I'd like to start the nursery paiting after we have out big u/s on the 16th. Am I "allowed" to paint or should DH do it all?  Do they say that the fumes are harmful?   If so, should I be out of the house for the next day or so while it airs out?  What did you/will you do???

    I think some paints may be worse than others, but that all in all painting should be avoided. I love home improvement projects, but for now I'm stuck doing just the taping part of the painting projects and DH will paint. You could always get a mask to put on and have all of the windows open, but I think even then the better thing would be to just let DH do the painting. I know it's hard b/c you wan to get things done, but this is one area I'm a bit cautious about.

    We paint all the time (our house is a mess!). My doc just said to make sure the space is well ventilated and I would recommend a low/no VOC paint. I love Sherwin-Williams Durations paint. It is more expensive but goes on so nicely and cleans up well.

    Oh and the other thing... take breaks. I am having a hard time physically painting because my back will seize up. It is not fun, so try and work in small areas.

    All of that being said, if you want an excuse to shop for accessories take it! Enjoy pulling the room together.

    Buy what is called Low VOC paint.  It's ok to use as long as the room is ventilated with a fan or window.

    I painted my kitchen and Sean's room.  My doc didn't love the idea but said as long as it was low VOC (I know dutchboy and valspar make low voc) it was ok.

    I am sure its fine in a well ventalated area... but I HATE paint fumes! I always get a headache. 

    I say help tape the room off, then buy DH and a buddy a pack of beer to enjoy while you go out window shopping for accessories.  You will have JUST found out if you are doing sailboats or birds so you will have a lot to do!

    I painted, by myself, last weekend.  I painted from the bottom up to the chair rail line.  I did one wall a day - like 1 hour max per day (that's really all it took to do a partial wall).  I used the Home Depot Behr paint and there were NO fumes.  I was totally prepared to wear a mask, open the window etc.. and didn't need to.  I guess if you are painting the entire room, floor to ceiling, you will need help and more venitlation - as more paint = more fumes.

    I paint for a living and my OB said latex paints are safe. I wear gloves and a mask just for extra caution. And when I paint in my own home, I usually shut the door of the room and leave the windows open for a while after I am done.

    I freak out about this kind of thing to be honest, so my mom and sister will be painting ours (DH is ridiculously busy with grad school).

    open the windows, turn on some fans and take breaks to get out of the room, but I think you'll be fine. I'd say do the low voc and maybe wear a mask, but as long as you're careful, I don't see a big issue with it!

    It's all good, as long as you ventilate and aren't allergic to latex!

    We used no voc (or it could've been low voc) paint from Lowes (olympic brand) and had the windows open.  DH and I did it all in one day, and took breaks at times.  I had no issues what so ever with the smell or any fumes.
