Question...if you are NOT from North America...

Does your home country use pink clothes for girls and blue for boys?

This has been on my mind lately... I work in a job where I see hundreds of pictures of infants/toddlers a day and 80% of the time, newborns/infants who have parents from India, China, Viet Nam and similar countries do not dress their kids in gender specific clothing.

I have had to do many double-takes because girls are wearing boys clothes (outfits with sports that says "little mvp") and boys are in pink sleepers.

I'm just curious if it's cultural.

  • I don't know where you work, but I have family in other countries and they dress their kids in whatever is given to them. I suppose it may be a money issue in their case, where beggars can't be choosers.

  • The color association thing is rooted in the English/British, I believe - although originally it was opposite, so, I would suspect it tends to be western and anglo cultures that so a color association of pink and blue...
  • Without being too specific I see pictures for Visa/Passport/Citizenship purposes, so these kids are from all different financal backgrounds.

  • I DRESS DD IN PINK - WE MOSTLY HAVE GENDER SPECIFIC CLOTHES HERE IN LONDON, IM YET TO SEE A BOY IN PINK!
