DD loves to feed herself finger foods and is great at it. DS seems capable - he picks up his Cheerios just fine, but then throws them overboard. He doesn't even try to put it in his own mouth. He just cries for me to do it. He was also months behind her in holding his own bottle. I think he's just a typical man who wants a woman to feed him.

Any suggestions on how to get him to start feeding himself? I would just like to be able to stall him with some Cheerios while I prepare the rest of the meal!
Re: Is there anyway to encourage self-feeding?
a couple of tricks, although he might just be a bit young...
the whole "are you going to put that in your mouth? did you? don't you put that in your mouth! ack! you put it in your mouth! yeahhh ! you rock!" enthusiasm crap game. jump up and down and act like he's cured cancer. sometimes that does it. they get smug and do it again.
you can also point out that you're doing it, show him, point out DD doing it.... make it sound and look like the best.time.ever.
He'll get it.
Or he'll demand you peel his grapes, woman!

Peel his grapes! Hahahaha!
Keg - MumMums? Never heard of them...going to look it up...
I like Davez' suggestions.
Repetition. I felt like it finally clicked big time around 12 months to the point I could just hand them something to eat and they'd eat it. Now, it is beautiful. I put a nice spread of food on their trays and they eat and keep themselves busy with that and a sippy cup. Just kept giving them finger food, showed them, helped feed them...
mum mums are great. You can get them at Walmart for sure, and maybe Walgreens.
DS has the opposite problem. Only wants cheerios and is on a puree strike. SUCKS!!
