Baby Names

I still don't like any boy's name that much!

I still love Oliver but DH will never go for it. I've got a list of names (see link) but I still don't love any of those names. I have a reason not to like all of them--Charlie is getting to be a girl's name, Liam is getting trendy, etc., etc.

DH insists on no H names because that's the first letter of our last name.

So, here are a few more names. Give me some thoughts, please, or suggest some more:

Declan

Duncan

Xavier

Tarquin

Archer

Davis

Ewan

Paul

Finian

Tate

Thanks!

Also--if you knew Wheeler were my maiden name, would you like that? It's on my original list, and I like it in theory but in some ways can't imagine a kid having my maiden name as his first name.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE Xavier!!!!

  • I like most of the names that you have posted here.  DH and I talk about the name Wheeler as a middle name sometime (It's a small town that has significance to him). Not sure what I think of it as a first name.

  • Love Declan, especially since your DS is Colin!

  • out of those i like Davis and Xavier
  • I love Oliver too, but one of my best friends "claimed" it (it was her boy name, but they had a girl) so I feel like it's off limits.

To answer your question, I like Davis, Finian, and Tate. ?Archer is okay, Declan is all right (makes me think of Reese Witherspoon and it would bug me if people thought I copied a celeb). ?Really don't like Tarquin or Ewan- they sound like superheroes.

LOVE Wheeler as a middle name. ?I love names with meaning (DS's name is my grandma's maiden name) but Wheeler doesn't have a great 1st name ring to it, imo.?

Actually, Reese Witherspoon's son's name is Deacon, not Declan.

  • I seriously LOVE wheeler. It's one of my top 3 names. My other favorties are Fisher and Sutton.

I like Declan, FInian and Tate.

  • Out of your list, my favorites are Duncan and Paul.

Here are some others that I think have that unique, handsome quality (like Colin James):

Anderson (Anderson Wheeler, Paul Anderson, or Anderson Paul), William (Will) , Beckett, Dean, Everett, Grant, Barrett, Miles, Rowan, Thomas, Callahan/Callaghan (possibly nn Cal), Robert

  • I like your name list.  While some of them are not ones I would choose, per se, I wouldn't go so far as to say I dislike them.  Probably the only one I'm iffy about is Archer.  Wheeler makes sense as a name for your if it's your maiden name.  Otherwise, I wouldn't use it, probably for the same reason I'm tepid about Archer.

  • I like all of them but Archer and Tarquin, and don't love Xavier. I like Finian spelled Finnian. I love Duncan, Declan and Tate!

  • I like your list a lot...we have the same naming style. I love, love, love Tate! It is such a cute name and is suitable for an adult. Duncan is one of my favs on your list, too. I'm not sure how to pronounce Finian (fin-yan or fin-e-an) but I like it bc its different. I knew a cute little kid named Xavier, so it appeals to me, too. My least faves are Ewan, Declan, and Paul. And I think Wheeler is cheesy for a first name but I'd def think about using it as a middle name. Good luck!

  • So , I see your son's name is Colin. If you like Irish names (since Declan is on your list too), how about Ronan?
  • Declan - This is my favorite!  It sounds great with your sons name.

Duncan - I have a bad association with this name, but it does sound nice with Colin.

Xavier - I like this as a name but would pass on it because you live in Cincinnati.

Tarquin - Not sure how I feel about this name....I want to like it though

    Archer - nms

    Davis - I like it!

    Ewan - My third favorite

Paul - I like this in the middle spot

    Finian - My second favorite!

Tate - This is cute too

I think Wheeler sounds good in the middle spot but doen not sound right as a first name.

Some other ideas: Callum, Gavin, Graham, Lachlan, Malcolm, Eamon, Lorcan, Tiernan

  • I like Duncan and Davis from your list.

I also really love the name Patrick, since you seem to go for Irish names.

  • i like tate wheeler and i also have a friend who named her DS callum and that would be cute with collin also. Smile

  • i have a 2 year old Oliver so perhaps our tastes are similar.  here are some names i like if we have DS #2...

elliot, dorian, donovan (van), barrett, asher, graham, silas, julian.

  • I like Paul. The others are NMS. You aren't using Garrett anymore? That's our #1 boy name right now.
  • Charlie is kinda of getting to be a girl's name but you could name him Charles and call him Chaz. That is my husband's name -- although everyone calls him Charlie, I call him Chaz (nickname from a kid I went to school with because he didn't like Chuck -- he loved Chaz).
  • The only name you listed that I semi-like is Tate.
