DD's eyes are crusty. What to do?

DD's eyes are crusty when she wakes up and have been a little goopy like she has tears in her eyes. I looked online to are what info I could find and I keep seeing to put breast milk in her eyes. Anyone have any advice?

Re: DD's eyes are crusty. What to do?

  • I'd ask your pedi.  Until then ... maybe a warm wash cloth?
  • Loading the player...
  • Put s drop of BM in her eyes. It's weird but it works. BM could solve anything.

Her tears may be starting to come in.

  • DS has had a blocked tear duct in one eye since birth and it gets crusty/goopy every so often. My Ped said to put a warm cloth on it to clean it, and to massage the corner of his eye gently. It really helps. I have also put a little BM in it.
  • Sounds like a clogged tear duct.  Clean her eyes with a warm clean washcloth throughout the day.  Massage right under her tear ducts gently.  And yes, breastmilk in the eye works wonders.  My DD had this same problem.

  • Our pedi said to massage the sides of her nose and to put a little bit of No Tears shampoo on a wash cloth to prevent infection when cleaning her eyes.  The clogged tear duct cleared up quickly after that.
  • It's normal. DS has this problem in his left eye. Pedi said it's likely a clogged tear duct that hasn't opened up yet. You can use a warm wash cloth to wipe it away and yet our pedi also said we can use a few drops of BMs to help it along.
  • I just put breast milk in one of my DD's eyes and it worked:)

  • I just seen it on the Doctors!

They said to take 10 parts water, to 1 part baby shampoo/soap mix it, use a cotton ball and wipe it across your baby's eye. It not only loosens up the crust but it cleans the eye ducts too.
