I have a 2 month old, and my brother just announced that his wedding this coming March is going to be in JAPAN.
I'm really excited, but I am also nervous about DD.
She will definitely be coming with us, we'll probably be there for 2 weeks.
What is your LO's schedule like? Do you think this will totally kill whatever routine she has?
Has anyone taken a trip like this with their baby?
Any insight or advice would be appreciated before I start planning flights, hotels, activities, etc.
thanks!
Re: Guest from 0-3 with travel question
Hachioji (about two hours from Tokyo) and then Hakone (Mt. Fuji) and Kyoto.
Good luck on your flight this weekend!
I've never flown that far but what I like about flying with Southwest was that since the flight wasn't booked up they let me bring the carseat on the plane instead of gate checking it. Maybe you should check to see if the international flight offers a seat or something for infants.
I also suggest bringing a couple of extra sets a clothes for you and LO and a warm blanket. Bring a toy to keep him or her occupied.
I've been on vacation with DS for two weeks and his scheadule was awesome. Better on vacation than at home. The 1 hour time change worked well for us. Flipping his days and nights, ha!, yeah, that's going to be a disaster. I don't even know how you tackle something like that. The traveling part is easy-peasey, the time change is crazy.
Traveling wise, the more gear you already have over there, the better. I assume the bride is from Japan? See if her family has baby gear they can loan you for the stay.
Oh goodness, that is a long flight with a 7-month-old. Are you considering flying first class? If not, try to book early and get that first row in coach so you have lots of extra space.
Bring lots of toys. Make sure LO is sleepy, and maybe you can time a whole night's sleep for on the plane, which would make things easier.
Jet lag is a lot worse coming home, so I think you'll manage while you're there. Good luck!! And have lots of fun.
Thanks! We are only going to Chicago so this is a test flight for the future. We plan on going to Europe as much as possible with her.
I haven't been to those three places but I have spent time in Tokyo, Hiroshima and a few other places. The one thing I noticed is the difference in food. For example, Japanese milk tastes much different than here in the States. I hated it. I would think about what your LO likes to eat and how that will translate over there. And if you like meat and get a chance to enjoy some Korean BBQ go for it. I loved it!
GL!
