Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How old is too old for TOT?

DH brought up last night that DD shouldn't be TOTing next year. I really haven't thought about it. She'll be 10 next Halloween. Thoughts? What do you think is too old? How old were you when you stopped?

  • Really?  In our neighborhood we TOT into high school...

  • I think when you hit teens you are too old.
  • I was 13.  I think ten is totally fine.
  • 8th grade - I don't think 10 is too old at all

  • I think high school is too old, but that's just me. I think 10 is way to young to stop ToT'ing though.

  • I went until I was 16. Though I will say I was annoyed at how many older teens I saw on Saturday ToTing. But 10 is still young!
  • My oldest nephew went this year and he is 12.

My moms rule was 13 but I got to take my cousin out a few more years after that but I couldn't take a bag.  People felt sorry for me and I came home with my pockets full.

  •  I thought 10 was acceptable also. I just wasn't sure.
  • as long as they have on a costume, as old as they like.

DS is eight and wasn't very interested this year, so Im thinking next year may be his last. Crying

  • I don't think 10 is too old at all.  IMO, if you're old enough to be driving, and you're too lazy to put on a costume, you shouldn't be t-o-ting.  That's just me though.
  • my son is 11 he didnt go this year.  But then again not a sole in our neighborhood.  Noone decorated so really no loss.  once they lose interest but in our case i think hes done.
  • 10 is perfectly fine!  I don't really care how old they as long as they actually put effort into a costume.  I'm tired of people either not dressing up at all, or putting on random things so that nobody knows what you're supposed to be.
  • I think 12 should be the cut off. Teenagers shouldn't TOT.
  • I say if you have to shave, you can buy your own candy.
  • All of us went trick-or-treating until we were seniors.  It's fun to get to go with your friends when you get older.  Heck, I see some parents that still enjoy it!

  • 12 was my last year.  I looked sooooo young, though, I easily could have passed for 10.

I think high school is the cut-off.  If you're 14 but only in 8th grade, I see no problem with that whatsoever- unless you're dressed like a hooker.

This.  10 is still perfect for TOT'ing.

  • I think it depends on the kid. My friend's son is 9 and decided he's "too old" this year, so she didn't push the issue of getting him a costume or anything. But I think at 10, if your daughter still wants to do it, it's not too old.

I can't remember when I stopped. I guess when kids my age started having parties at their houses on Halloween night, maybe junior high or early high school?

  • I think the last yr I went out I was 14 or 15.
  • 8th grade was the last year I TOT. I think 10 is fine.

Oh come on, NO WAY. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. There needs to be a limit. If ANYONE who wanted - like, say, my 19 year old neighbor who was our ONLY tot'er - put on a costume and tot'ed, that would be out of control. Look at the posters who got 200+ tot'ers. There needs to be a cut off, and there needs to be adults who hand out candy! We can't ALL put on a costume and mooch candy off others, as nice as that would be, b/c then who would hand out the candy?

imo, teenagers shouldn't be tot'ing past age 14, MAYBE 15 tops. I stopped after 13. I agree with the posters who said you shouldn't be tot'ing if you're old enough to drive. It's an event for KIDS; older teenagers are just taking advantage of people's generosity and I think it goes along with so many things that breed a sense of entitlement to this upcoming generation. (i.e. the 19 year old who showed up here didn't even say tot, something I saw a lot of people post, and others who mentioned teenagers not even bothering to put on costume). They think they're just entitled to you handing them candy just b/c it's tot night.

Anyway, back to OP, 10 is definitely not too old and she should still go for a few years if she wants.
