Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Does your toddler SCREAM????

My DS screams.... a lot.  Most of the time it's out of frustration.  He will just stop where he's at, and scream as loud as he can.  It's really frustrating for us, not to mention annoying.  I am hoping it's a combination of his age and lack of words to express himself.  Sometimes I wonder if he will always do this? He definitely has a temper. Do you do anything to try to deter this?  I don't want to say "punish", but I want him to understand this is not acceptable.  Thanks!

Re: Does your toddler SCREAM????

  • YES!!  It never fails she does it in public alot too.  Mostly when she's frustrated, bored or I'm not paying attention to her for whatever reason.  I try to just ignore it and move on when we are home.  Depending where we are out I end up giving her something that makes her happy, which I know doesn't help matters but it can be pretty embarrassing when we are at a restaurant or something.

It completely normal and its their way of expressing how they feel.  I think once they learn to say what it is they want or need it will get better.

  • My little guy just started doing this.  He screams and sometimes stomps his feet and spins around!  I try as hard as I can to ignore it.  when he's all done, I tell him that I understand that it's frustrating that his toy is stuck, and help him fix it.  (or whatever the situation is).  BUT, I always let him finish his "fit" and ignore it.

  • Yes!  It's super frustrating.  Mostly I try to "shhhh" him, help him with what he's frustrated with, etc... I'm hanging onto hope that once he has more words, we'll be able to talk it out because I'm not really sure what else to do.
