Everyone has had different experiences. Some are easy some are painful. I had a painful one, but can assure you that the pain only last for a minute or 2 and then it is over. The pain feels like severe menstral cramps.
Take 2 ibuprofin about 30 minutes before, that will help with the pain if you have any.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Like the pp said, the experience is different for everyone. I have heard many people say that it was an easy experience whereas it was painful for others (myself included). Take some ibuprofen or tylenol 30 min before your appointment, this will help ease any potential pain. The procedure will be over quickly. You will be ok.
I didn't have any blockages or anything, so mine was just severe cramps for couple minutes. Couple pain relievers do help. Its going to depend on if you have any blockages or such. Try not to be nervous, you're only going to get answers out of having it done!
My HSG was pretty painless. I took some Advil before going in and only had some menstrual-like cramps for a few minutes (not for the entire procedure).
Best of luck!
Oh, Baby Bean! We will always miss you! With us for 6w3d -- June 9, 2008. 2 years of TTC, Seeing RE Feb 09, 2 medicated TI cycles - BFNs, 3 medicated IUIs - BFNs, back to medicated TI cycles until IVF approval, IVF approved in March 2010. BFP on last medicated TI cycle.
I had worked myself up a week before the appt I almost made myself sick. It was not bad at all. I was probally only in there to 5-10 min. I took 600 mg 30 min before the appt. The worst part was the bleeding for 2-3 days after. I had no cramping at all during or after. I watched the screen the whole time and it was actually kinda neat to watch. Good luck and don't be nervous it is not worth it.

i know it is hard but try not to freak out...for me it was painful b/c i had blockages and need to be 'flushed' a couple times...but in the end it is worth it b/c you will no what is going on (if you have blocked tubes, etc.) Most importantly it is over quickly. Hang in there....
