1st Trimester

Anyone else here having an unplanned pregnancy?

This pregnancy is unplanned.  I am extremely overjoyed and excited, but since it wasn't planned I feel like I wasn't able to get my body as ready for the baby as I'd like to be.
For example: I wish I had started taking prenatal vitamins before I conceived just so my body would be that much more ready.  I know they recommend women who are planning to get pregnant to start taking folic acid a month before they conceive... and I wish I had planned this so I would've been able to do that.
Also, I was taking Doxycycline for acne up until I found out I was pregnant (a week ago). And I'm worried that drug could cause some complications.
Anyone else have any concerns like that?

  • don't worry i kept taking my birth control pills eveyday till i found out i was pregnant at almost 8 weeks. Plus vicoden for pain cause i had been in a bad car accident. I had no idea. i'm glad i took a test just in case.

  • Try not to worry. I didn't start taking PNV with DD until 7wks. She turned out just fine (check out siggy Stick out tongue)

As far as the acne meds I wouldn't worry. If you are really worried mention it to your OB I'm sure they can put you at ease.

  • My baby was unplanned and my doc told me it's not entirely necessary to take PNV as long as you're already a pretty healthy person. It's your health that determines the baby's not the vitamins.

  • DD wasn't planned and I wasn't in the best shape or taking vitamins. I was a little concerned about it too but she was fine. Your little bean will be adorable and healthy . No need to worry. Big Smile
  • I am also at the beginning of an unplanned pregnancy.  And I was also taking very harmful meds in the beginning.  One thing that I have learned though ( through many m/c's & 2 healthy births) is that stressing out over it is often worse than what actually happened.

I was in process of trying to lose weight when I discovered i was pg.   So much for that dream now I guess. LOL! I will just have to work harder to lose the weight after the baby!

    Good luck hun!

  • My pregnancy wasn't planned either, and I wasn't taking PNV or anything thing (hell DH had to hassle me every night to brush me teeth Embarrassed) but now that I've been pregnant for much longer I've gotten really good at it: I take my PNV every day, brush twice a day, eat more and better, go to yoga, do all of those things that help me and the baby. It gets easier to remember to do those things once you have a basketball on your belly, bc I was horrible at remembering in my 1st tri.
  • This pregnancy was TOTALLY unplanned for us.  Came as a complete shock.  So there are plenty of people in the same boat.. just try to relax =)  The doctors will put you at ease about everything =)

  • I know how you feel, we brought home a honeymoon surprise so i was completely in shock and stressed that i wasnt more "prepared" but ive learned that its far worse to worry and stress about it more and just try to concentrate on a happy, healthy, growing baby!!
  • This wasn't planned for us either, we were only married 1 month when we got BFP. I wasn't taking any vitamins.  I talked to my doc and they said not to stress.  I was also drinking occassionally and was a smoker...I feel horrible, but I obviously stopped everything as soon as I found out at 5 wks and I realize there's nothing I can do now but make up for it by taking vitamins and being good to my body.  Good luck!
  • This was a surprise for me too!  I know what you mean about wanting to get in better shape before you get pregnant - I wanted to do the same thing.  It's funny though, the week before I knew I was pregnant, I started PNVs, made more of an effort to exercise, threw out all of my old cleaners and use only my natural ones, and made sure that everything I was eating was natural, organic, etc.  All things I was slowly transitioning to, last week I just decided to chuck everything else.
  • Unplanned

I'm not worried, I know it happens. I was on the pill and I remember drinking the first few weeks and I wasn't on any vitamins at all. Crazier things have happened. Think about back in the day when they didn't have anything and they didn't know anything.

As long as you started doing everything right as soon as you find out it should all be good. :)

  • We were in shock , as we found out about 2 weeks before our wedding !! Fortunately I'm not a heavy drinker, only had a glass or 2 of wine and I was not on any medications, except taking Tylenol cold. It's something we've always wanted, we just thought it would be a little bit down the road as to enjoy some married life as just the two of us. Guess we have about 8 months for that. Wink

I definitely would have worked on getting to a healthier weight had we planned this pregnancy, and just would have been nice to be more used to the idea than be surprised by it.  But we are thrilled and all I can do is be as healthy as I can now for both of us.
