what does thrush look like?

I can't believe I am asking because as a dentla hygienist I should know...but when it is your baby, well, you know...

Her tongue is light white, like if she drank white coffee.  It is not thick or clumpy, on her her cheeks, palate or throat, or inflamed underneath.  Is this just milky-mouth?  Or should I take her in to the ped?

Re: what does thrush look like?

  • If it's just on her tongue then you're fine.  BF babies get the milk film because the feed more often, therefore their saliva can't wash it away as quickly as FF babies.

  • Try wiping her tongue off with a wet wash cloth, if it doesn't come off easily then it's most likely thrush. DS has had it for about 3 weeks. He would get rid of it then it would come back. It started again on Friday. It was only on his tongue then, but by Saturday night it was on the inside of his cheeks and on his lips.
