3rd Trimester

Are you and DH having separate diaper bags?

DH mentioned that he has to start looking for a backpack for his diaper bag. I guess I assumed we would share and I don't mind a backpack. DH said he assumed I would want a cutesy one and he would prefer a more basic adult one. I don't mind that but wondered if you all plan on sharing?

Re: Are you and DH having separate diaper bags?

  • Yes. Were both on the go and have equally shared responsibility for LO. I should get him a pink frilly one, huh?

  • Well considering that mine is black and pink, my DH is probably going to get his own. I don't think he'll look at cute as me with a black and pink tote.
  • Don't bother.

DH has one (someone gave it to him) and he has never once used it. He just doesn't take her out alone long enough EVER (he works FT, and on weekends, we tend to do things together or he just runs out with her but is back within a few hours)

  • I just picked one that he wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen with.
  • Yes. I got the big Vera Bradley baby bag and he got a smaller Eddie Bauer "manly" diaper bag lol.

I see your point but I forgot to mention that DH will be a SAHD when I go back to work from maternity leave. At least for awhile until he finds a job that is worth paying daycare for. Thanks for your response.

  • No.  That's why I picked out this one to go with our travel system:

  • we'll probably share. we have about 5 diaper bags, so who know....he may claim the manly looking one.
  • Yes we did with dd and will with LO...my first one was pretty girlie and he said no way..so he got a plain, black Gerber one he loved..this new one isn't as girlie but he still wants his plain, black one..his is still in great shape from the first one bcuz he obvisously didnt' use it as much as I did
  • No, he picked several that he would carry and then we made our final choice from those.
  • DH insisted on it. Not because he wouldn't carry a girlie one, but bc it was "fair"! He wants to be just as active with LO and I do, and we'll probably end up taking both diaper bags when we all go out. He jokes, saying that the only time I get to hold Blue is when he needs fed and when he has a poopy diaper!
  • DH is not planning on going anywhere long enough that he needs an actual diaper bag, so I got him one of those portable changing pads that fold up and hold wipes and diapers. so he will take that with him if he is going to be gone long enough to need it.

  • We have shared one from the beginning with DS.  I far prefer to just have to worry about keeping one bag stocked than two and I am perfectly happy to have a gender neutral non-cutesy bag that DH doesn't mind carrying.

  • Yes.  My diaper bag is patent leather and just looks like a purse - my DH wouldn't be caught dead carrying it.  He will probably re-purpose a messenger bag or backpack for his diaper bag.

  • No way.  Too much of a pain to make sure both bags have the rigth stuff in it.  It's hard enough to deal with one bag sometimes.  Sometimes I drop him off and he picks him up so it would never work.  This is why I got a plain black bag that we could both use.  Now that we are about to have #2 I am going to use the same bag.  Frilly is overrated.
  • i have a pretty gender neutral one but I did buy DH a Mizzou diaper bag and he loves it and wants to always use his when he has her.

  • No, we shared perfectly fine with DS and will again this time. We bought a brown diaper bag that comes with two attachable fronts (one brown and pink, the other brown and blue. Since we had a boy we used the brown and blue one). ?We were either out together with DS, and only one bag was needed, or one of us were out alone with DS, and neither of us cared about being seen with a diaper bag. Really I would suggest just buying something you can both live with and keep things simple and all in one bag.?

  • we did with first ds and plan to with this one. plus my dh doesn't wear jackets he prefers a down vest. So I found a vest online that is meant for dads. It has inside and outside pockets without being bulky that hold a couple of diapers, wipes and a bottle. I am ordering it for his xmas present.

  • Yes, he calls it his "man bag." I cant blame the guy.
  • We share. I have two basic black diaper bags. I wasn't buying into the whole camo diaper bag thing, and DH would've thought I was crazy!

  • I had planned on just using mine, but he actually got upset and wanted his own.  He got a navy blue diaper backpack from Lands End.  He plans on taking her all over the place by himself, he has all these grand plans about the places they will go and the things they will do together.  Wink  He is going to take her to and from daycare, stay home with her on sick days, and he'll be an extremely hands-on dad, he'll do just as much as I will.  He was born to be a dad.  He has already stocked his bag with a list he found, mine is still empty.  He's really proud of it, he'd be a great single dad even, he jokes that he just needs me for the milk.  Wink

I also think that he just wanted something that would be his and make him even more excited about being a dad.  Everything we buy is for me or baby and he wanted to be a part of it and have "dad things."  When we go out together we'll probably use his bag, so it's actually likely we'll use his more than mine.  I'll only use mine when I'm alone with her, and that won't be very often.

  • We got a brown messenger type diaper bag. We can share it. If we need to get an extra one I think it will be pretty neutral too.

  • No. We will be taking turns going out with LO, but we got a "daddy" diaper bag that I like as well, and this way we can just keep the one stocked. I do have another that I garage saled for about $3 that I can use if I decide I want my own, but we plan on sharing. Got baby? got diaper bag...
  • DH picked up his own when he decided mine was too "girlie" for him!  I have the Skip Hop Studio Tote and he bought a Columbia one from BRU.

You are projecting your frustrations.  What is the relevance of this to the other ladies on this board?  I also work FT and on weekends etc.  My DH is getting his own bag and his share of responsibility.

  • we're getting seperate bags.  Mine is flowery and he registered for a black one with skull and crossbone designs.  He'll bw working FT and I'll be working PT, but he'll be taking care of DD when I'm working.

  • mine is a brown messenger style from pottery barn, I think DH can deal with that. But he proably would deal with it if it were cutsy too.
