i was 2 days past my due date of october 25th, and with NO signs of labor. ive been about 4cm, 80% effaced for about 3 weeks now, but the baby was at station -2 and i never dropped so..i figured i would just make an appointment to induce at 7 days past due.
tuesday, october 27th at 12:30am...i had just laid down to go to bed and i got the WORST pain i have ever felt in my life. it felt like someone took a balloon and put it in my lower stomach area and pumped it up until it was about to explode. i jumped up and ran to the bathroom because it felt like i had to go really bad and i tried to sit on the toilet, but couldnt, because the pain wouldnt let me. i was propping myself up over the toilet and yelled to my husband to come and help me. he ran in and the pain finally stopped..so i sat on the toilet and tried to go to the bathroom and felt wetness, so i wiped and saw a HUGE amount of bright red blood.
this was my first bloody show ever so i just knew it had to be it. i went back to my bed to lay down and to start timing what i thought were contractions...basically period cramps low in my stomach that came in waves. i called my mom and dad and told them that we are heading to the hospital, which is literally across the street.
got our bags in the car and headed to the ER. they dispatched L&D transport and sent a wheelchair down to get me. i was having contractions as they wheeled me to L&D, but nothing i couldnt handle. i signed in and they sent me to triage and asked me to put the gown on and give a urine sample. i was bleeding SO bad that i couldnt even take off my pants or give the sample, but i did anyways as my husband walked behind me cleaning up after me TMI,
i laid down on the bed and they hooked me up to the monitors and put in my IV. i was having consitant contractions which felt like they were getting closer and closer together, less than 3 minutes, but again, nothing i couldnt handle. they asked me if i wanted an epidural, i declined so they told me to hang tight, they were going to check my dialation. the nurse came back in and checked me....I WAS 9 CM!!!!!!!!!!
WHOA. thats what all the blood was. i assume i went from sitting on the couch at home at 12:30am at a 4cm to 9cm at 1:45am. they called my doctor and sent me into a labor and delivery room. a resident doctor again examined me and said i 9cm, completely effaced and baby was station +2 but my water had not ruptured. my doctor finally arrived and broke my water and said "let me know when you feel like you need to push..." guess what? I NEEDED to push!!!! and push i did. it was hard at first because i had no clue what i was doing and my contractions were coming fast. the contractions hurt SO bad. i could barely stand them. i was squeezing my husbands hands off im sure. i started pushing and it was horrible. i couldnt get control over my body and give a good push, the pain was so bad that i couldnt focus. next contraction came and i pushed and they said they could see hair. next contraction her forehead was out. next contraction her head. next contraction.......nothing. her shoulders were stuck. i had to wait until the next contraction to push the hardest i have ever pushed in my life. my doctor actually had to put his fingertips inside to pull her out. the cord was wrapped around her neck twice. her shoulders came out and one tiny pushed later..she was out!
Lola Birdie was born 3 hours after i left my home at 3:32am, weighing 9lbs 6oz with a 14 inch head and 14 in shoulders. i cant even tell you how many times or how deep i ripped, i just know that it took my doctor an hour to stitch me up. i tore up, down and all around. yuck.
