Trying to Get Pregnant

New here with an ovulation questions

Hi everyone, We just got married and we are trying to get pregnant now. I went off the pill, which I had been on for almost 15 years because my period would come every two weeks if I wasn't on it. Someone told me this means I am probably not ovulating. Well today I got my period, after just 16 days without it. So my questions are:

1. Is it true I'm not ovulating?

2. Is there anything I can do about this?

 Thanks for your help.

Re: New here with an ovulation questions

  • Your body can do weird things coming of BC - your cycles can be screwed up.

The only way to tell whether you are ovulating is to chart your temperature.  go to www.fertilityfriend.com to read up on it.

  • Reproductive Endocrinologist. I'd go to an OB first to go ahead and get seen then check with your insurance. Mine requires a referral from an OB.

  • I know in TCOYF it also mentions that some women have ovulation bleeding (although its rare) so it seems like you're having AF every two weeks, a heavy one and then a light one, but really you could just be bleeding around O.

?I agree with all PP that the only way to tell is through charting and it could possibly mean that you aren't O'ing at all or you have a really short LP. ?GL!?

  • So a regular OB won't be able to help? My sister-in-law mentioned there is some drug that makes you ovulate. We had this conversation months ago though so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly.

  • Um, I'm not sure what that means. There's way more terminology here than on the Knot. I can do it if you point me in the right direction.

Probably talking about Clomid.  Your OB might put you on it but if I were you I would want a complete evaluation first and also monitoring while taking it to make sure you do ovulate and don't produce too many eggs.  Some OBs do a good job of this, some don't.
