Tell me about your vacuum

Our vacuum is on a long slow march to its death. We have carpet and hardwoods, so a new vacuum needs to work on both AND eat pet hair.

I've been looking at reviews online, everyone loves the Dyson models. Are they really worth the money?

Any recommendations would be great!

I 100% regret not getting a Dyson for my last vacuum. I was all set to get one but when I got to the store I just could not go through with spending that much money for a damn vacuum cleaner. So I got the Hoover Pet Plus or something like that, it was less than $200 but less than 3 months later I already hate it. The suction on it sucks (oh the irony) and the little switch from carpet to hardwoods gets stuck.
