Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Breakfast Foods and Eggs

Hi Ladies - I know we're not supposed to give babies eggwhites before 12 months, but now I'm not sure what to give her for breakfast as we incorporate more and more with solids. I made DD eggwhite free french toast, but all the pancake mixes I find call for the whole egg. What are you guys finding to give your LOs for breakfast as you're moving away from purees? Thanks!

Re: Breakfast Foods and Eggs

  • Instant oatmeal (he loves all the flavors) and grits with cheese.  We do one or the other every morning with yogurt and fruit.

  • We've given C pancakes (made with whole eggs), mini bagels, cut up fruit, scrambled egg yolks, etc.  Colin has eaten many foods made with whole eggs and hasn't had any issues, so I think we'll try whole eggs soon.

ETA: we also feed him yogurt some mornings or cottage cheese.  He's not a huge fan of either though.

  • We make pancakes with egg yolk, hard boiled egg yolk, mini eggo waffles, a variety of fruits - mango, banana, bakes apples, blueberries, melon, french toast made with egg yolk, egg yolk sandwich

  • Our pedi said that if there is no history of allergies, eggs are ok before 12 months.

For breakfast, we do yogurts, cheeses, cheerios and fruit most of the time.

  • Yep, our pedi says whole eggs before 12 months are fine too - just watch for a reaction, like all other foods.

This too.  DD has had scrambled eggs (the whole egg!  :gasp:) and she's fine.  She eats pancakes mixed with fruits and we tried pumpkin pancakes this weekend.  Loved them.  Other fruits, cheese, muffins....uh pretty much everything that I would eat, just not cereal.
